Will you take part in Buy Nothing Day by doing, well, nothing?

BUY Nothing Day takes place on Friday 25 November.

It’s a day when some people around the world will be taking a 24-hour break from shopping.

Buy Nothing Day is timed to be on the same day as Black Friday, which is a day that originated in the USA, when shops offer special deals and discounts.

But, instead of trying to nab a bargain, organisers of Buy Nothing Day want us to stop and think about the impact we have on the environment when we shop.

They say we need to question the things we buy and challenge the companies that produce them. They want everyone to do their bit by taking simple actions to solve the climate crisis and they say Buy Nothing Day is a great place to start.

“Recycling is great, but reducing is better!” say the organisers. “If we all take simple steps to cut down on what we consume, then collectively we will change our attitude towards single-use packaging, fast fashion and our throwaway culture.”

It sounds like a great idea! I would take part for sure!

Yes because it will waste fuel and we have to stop climate change.

Just like the Tesco’s slogan “Every Little Helps” if we all take part we will help to stop the climate crisis all together.

If it's for the environment, then yes, I'll take part in Buy Nothing Day, by doing nothing!

I hope this gets done every year.

No, because if supermarkets are doing discounts, then my family will be able to do the grocery shop cheaper, thus saving money. Also, it would be a good time to get Christmas gifts on the cheap.

I won't take part because I think that we need to shop or we would die. The thought is nice but it won't change what is happening.

I rarely ever buy anything anyway, i will take part. it makes sense not wasting money, being nice to the environment and all that.

Buy nothing day is good for the environment and doesn't affect your life. You should always have essential stuff in stock anyways so that shouldn't be a problem. It's very good idea, of course I will take part!

Yes because I don’t do Black Friday Shopping anyway. I want to reduce the amount of shopping that me and my family do to help the planet!

I get that it’s good for the environment, and, as much as I support that, it’s a day where my family can save money, as Sunday is usually our grocery day!

I think this is a very good idea.but what if people have to buy food or get emergency medical things for someone who's dying

minkmeow · 1 year ago

I am not taking part because on Black Friday you get good deals so it will make the cost of living crisis less worse even though people must think about how they are doing will harm the enviroment.

I would like to, but what about essential items?

max1234 · 1 year ago

I would, but it is one day ‘til my birthday, so I doubt my parents will do so.
