Do you get enough quality time with your parents/carers?

3rd February 2017

In this week’s issue of First News (Issue 555 – out Friday 3 February), we spoke to nine-year-old Frankie Cottrell who recently wrote to Southern Rail because he was fed up with his mum and dad coming home late every night because of recent rail strikes – his story has been all over the news recently.

Because of Frankie’s story, we want to know: Do you get enough quality time with your parents/carers?

I love my parents, we just don't interact much very more due to a.....situation in my life that has lasted nearly over a year. Not to mention, when I used to stay at home, I had so much homework I couldn't communicate with them very much.

Never get any time

bumble10 · 8 years ago

Yeah I think I do as both my parents don't work at the weekends and my mum only works school hours

realsr · 8 years ago

Parents are always busy

Etonmess54 · 8 years ago

My mum works from home and I don't have a nanny or anything. I actually see them for a lot of the day

ami002 · 8 years ago

I feel like when your parents work and you are at school all day, with stuff and homework in the weekends, you don't always get enough time to spend time with your parents.

shea2005 · 8 years ago

i have dinner with them breakfast with them. i do stuff with them on the weekend. i spend loads of time with them.

cordie · 8 years ago

lucykc · 8 years ago

Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't- it depends on the days of the week

pudsyears · 8 years ago

I think my parents are way to over protective of me and my brother. They end up spending to much time with us it seems like every second of the day. There always hugging me and checking on me. I just cant get rid of them.

bluelion · 8 years ago

Yes, I think I do get enough time with my mum, but my dad works longer but I still get to see him so yes. I do get enough time with both my parents.

IsabelH · 8 years ago

I do and I don't because my mum has to leave early to pick my brother and I up from school but on Wednesdays we have to go to After School Club (ASC). And my Dad always comes home when I go to bed. So I will vote yes.

Eris2005 · 8 years ago

I think I do because they don't work at weekends so I see them then and my mum is a teacher so I see her after school

claudine · 8 years ago

I voted yes, however, as I'm now 12 I'm starting to feel more independent and occasionally don't want them around. I feel very fortunate to have such caring parents.

missypie · 8 years ago

jdode · 8 years ago

claudine · 8 years ago

Hi First News, quick question.

On page 13, animal news in issue 555, why does the cat picture have to wear glasses? Being smart doesn't mean you have to wear glasses. Please address my query. Thanks! Ps, I love FN

2266flash · 8 years ago

Why shouldn't we? we should try to do it as well!

nickmoo · 8 years ago

Yes 100% yes

marthakom0 · 8 years ago

Yes and No. Sometimes They can be having a stress free day and not do any work! Whereas others they are busy! But most of the time they are not busy

237 · 8 years ago

I feel upset that my parents have to work on some weekends and I don't have enough time with them due to this.

sisterocks · 8 years ago

Sort of. My mum works nights and my dad works 5 days a week. Mostly far away.

themonster · 8 years ago

wait what?????????

dolphin3 · 8 years ago

I get plenty of quality time with my parents even though they have very busy jobs and have to work at home a lot as well.

poohbear16 · 8 years ago

They're working too much

Jim8ob · 8 years ago

My dad is in the army and he is away in England right now and I'm in Inverness. So my mum has to do the work and I just get enough time to spend time with her.

mjmd222 · 8 years ago

peniel2009 · 8 years ago

me.com · 8 years ago

I definitely have enough time with my parents- even if they aren't always there

ZENCE40 · 8 years ago

My family, especially my parents are very busy at the moment. I love them sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much, but we only spend lots of time together in the holidays and sometimes the weekends. (My parents work a lot )

mi6007 · 8 years ago

NO COS MY MUM FINISHES WORK AS LATE AS 6:00 EVERYDAY AND i'M EITHER IN AFTER SCHOOL CLUB[ WHICH I HATE ] OR WITH MY GRANDPARENTS AND/OR MY COUSINS.

bunny2008 · 8 years ago

Yep!

flameemily · 8 years ago

I get some but I would like a bit more.

elliefn123 · 8 years ago

Sort of. I kind of spend a tiny bit more time with my mum because my dad gets home later than her?

sunglasses · 7 years ago

I'm in the middle so I didn't vote. I am in bed when my Dad goes to work and when he comes home we have dinner but then he has to put my sister to bed and then he's so tired he goes to bed and doesn't usually wake up until I go to bed. However, almost all of my time with my family is with my Mum.so I'm in-between.

Sparkle09 · 7 years ago

I have parents who both work full time jobs and rarely get days off. My dad gets weekends off but my mum rarely has any time to spare because of her job.

harshil · 7 years ago

I ❤️ My parents beacause ,like how can you not ❤️ Your parents

leahpanda4 · 7 years ago

I am home educated so yes, I do although a lot of my friends that go to school don't as they go to school then go play with their friends rather than bond with their parents at all.

LeoCOOL · 7 years ago

i think yes, because i know some adults who work seven days a week.

jelibean · 7 years ago

no, but i am luckier than SOME other people

hptigers · 7 years ago

I love my mum and dad loads and I love to spend time with them

sootysweep · 6 years ago

No! You can never have enough quality time! Homework or clubs keep getting in the way, so we don't get much time together.

katkid10 · 4 years ago

My Mum works at my school and my Dad works in London, but we get lots of quality time together because we eat at the table.
