THE new plastic £10 note has gone into circulation in the UK.

The note features author Jane Austen, alongside Winchester Cathedral where she is buried.

The Queen will be presented with the first new note, followed by Prince Philip and then Prime Minister Theresa May.

Mark Carney, governor of the Bank of England, said: ‘The new £10 note celebrates Jane Austen’s work. Austen’s novels have a universal appeal and speak as powerfully today as they did when they were first published.”

Our old £10 notes will still be in circulation until spring 2018.

Who is Jane Austen?

Jane Austen is an English author, responsible for classic novels including Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility and Northanger Abbey. Her books have inspired many films too.
