Let someone know they’ve made a difference with our ‘Love Wins’ campaign

A lot of recent news stories have been sad or upsetting, which is why we’ve launched our Love Wins campaign, to show that there is so much more good in the world than bad. To prove it, we’ll be bringing you news of all the heartwarming things that we hear about every week.

But as well as stories that make the news, we need you to tell us about the everyday acts of kindness happening quietly in your homes, schools, workplaces and neighbourhoods all across the UK. Whether it’s your school doing something for charity or someone helping out a neighbour or total stranger, let us know about the ways that love is winning in your life. Just email your stories and pictures to [email protected], putting Love Wins in the subject line.

Let someone know they’ve made a difference

To help you take part in the campaign, we’ve produced a Love Wins certificate that can be awarded to someone who has shown love and friendship, such as helping someone in the playground. Whether a teacher hands certificates out in assembly or you just give one quietly to a friend, the important thing is that it shows someone’s kindness has been appreciated.

No-one is born with hate in their hearts. So children need to lead the way, showing adults how you celebrate our differences rather than condemn people because of them.

A message from the Prime Minister, Theresa May

“While these events are thankfully rare, I know that the impact can be felt across the whole country and we continue to think of those who have been affected.

“But what we have seen, time and time again, is that so often the worst situations bring out the best in people.

“The bravery of our police, ambulance and fire services as they risk their own lives to help others and who work so hard to keep us safe every day. The overwhelming generosity of all those who have donated money, food, clothes or shelter to those who have lost everything. The kindness and compassion from schools, churches, faith groups and local communities and the courage of people rebuilding their lives in the most difficult of circumstances – ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

“But it isn’t just tragic events like those we have seen in the past weeks and months that bring out this love and kindness. I’m sure, like me, you see examples of it every day – whether that’s from your family, your siblings, school friends, neighbours – all showing simple acts of kindness.

“The Love Wins campaign will help celebrate these acts, bringing together children from all faiths and backgrounds, all over the country, to highlight the goodness and hope that unites us rather than the hate and fear which tries to divide us.”

A message from the Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn

“When I travel and meet people around the country, I see warmth and kindness everywhere. That’s what I love best about Britain.

“After recent tragic and shocking events, our communities have come together, refusing to be divided. We have shown that love, kindness and respect triumphs over hate and fear.

“The Love Wins campaign celebrates the many everyday acts of kindness happening all over Britain, as we continue to stand strong together, supporting each other, and working together to build a better country for everyone.”

A message from the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan

“It is difficult for us all when there are horrible events in the news like the Manchester and London attacks. But it is important to remember that the police are working very hard to keep everyone safe.

“The people who carried out these attacks did so in the hope that they would divide us and bring hate to our country. But they did not succeed. I have been moved by the kindness of Londoners and visitors to our city – so many people have come forward to offer help to the families who have lost loved ones. People have donated money, placed flowers around London Bridge and offered to help local businesses get back on their feet.

“I think that this compassion shows why the UK is one of the most caring and open places in the world – in terrible circumstances, all of our communities come together to care for each other.

“I’m very happy to support the ‘Love Wins!’ campaign and to celebrate everyday acts of love and kindness. We look forward to hearing from you about the people in your lives who do things that remind us why it’s important always to be kind, open and understanding with each other. I want to thank everyone in London and Manchester, and across the country, for how generous they have been and for the way they have shown that there are more good people than bad in the world, and that love will always win over hate.”
