EXPERTS are calling for scrums and tackling to be banned in school rugby.
They say harmful contact should be banned, to prevent children from getting injuries that could affect them in later life.
Allyson Pollock and Graham Kirkwood, from Newcastle University, say a ban would reduce the risk of concussion and head injuries.
They are now calling on the UK’s chief medical officers (CMOs) to act.
Calls for a ban
Last year, the CMOs rejected a call for a ban on tackling in youth rugby. They referred to a report that said rugby was no more dangerous than any other sport.
What do you think? Should tackling be banned in school rugby?
