Raymond Chambers is one of the ten finalists in with a chance of winning the Global Teacher Prize worth $1 million on Sunday 19 March.

Raymond is a computer science teacher from Brooke Weston Academy in Corby, Northamptonshire. He became a teacher by chance as the result of a last-minute Computer Science degree placement.

Raymond started developing new software for learning using Microsoft Kinect, to make ICT lessons less dry and more varied, allowing him to include quizzes and make lessons more fun and engaging for his pupils. The success of this approach developed into a WordPress blog and a Twitter feed sharing his work, tools and best practice with other teachers. This eventually led to him being invited to Portugal to present it on a global scale at the Microsoft European Innovative Teachers Conference. He has picked up many awards.

Come back to First News this Sunday, 19 March, at 4pm (GMT) to watch a very special announcement of the winner – it’ll be out of this world! You can read more about the winner in Issue 562 of First News, on sale Friday 24 March.
