Trump talks tough at the United Nations

DONALD Trump’s first-ever speech at the United Nations was certainly different from any other speech given by a US President to the group.

The US President said lots of controversial things during the speech, including that Iran was “a corrupt dictatorship behind the false guise disguised as a democracy” whose “chief exports are violence, bloodshed, and chaos”.

Iran’s Foreign Minister responded by saying that: “Trump’s ignorant hate speech belongs in medieval times”.

Trump also made it clear that “If [the US] is forced to defend itself or its allies, [the US] will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea,”

‘Wrong place, wrong time’

The United Nations was founded to make sure that human rights are protected for all people – and for Trump to threaten war against another country at the UN’s General Assembly upset lots of leaders.

Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom said: “It was the wrong speech, at the wrong time, to the wrong audience.”

Not everyone was against the speech, however, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu explained: “In over 30 years of my experience with the UN, I never heard a bolder or more courageous speech. ”
