A song created by AI has made history by topping one of the world’s most famous music charts.
The country song Walk My Walk, by AI artist Breaking Rust, soared to the number one spot on Billboard’s Country Digital Song Sales. This is a chart that Taylor Swift has topped multiple times in the past, although because so few people actually buy digital songs now, some experts have said this was a deliberate tactic to get media attention.
It comes as research by another streaming platform, Deezer, suggests that for every 100 people, just three of us can tell the difference when asked whether a song has been created by a real-life artist or by AI.
Deezer surveyed 9,000 music fans from eight countries, including the UK, to reach its shock finding.
It adds that around 50,000 songs generated entirely by AI are uploaded to its platform every day, which makes up one third of all uploads. Deezer boss Alexis Lanternier says that some creators are “flooding music streaming” with AI songs, then instructing a bot to listen to them over and over again to make money.
AI is a big talking point in all creative industries, with worries that its rapid rise threatens human artists. But what about for you?
