South Korean school pupils will be learning from digital textbooks powered by artificial intelligence (AI) from 2025.

The country’s schools boss, Lee Ju-ho, says it’s time for old teaching methods to change. He said: “We need to move from a memorisation-based classroom.”

The “high-quality” AI textbooks are said to be able to teach each pupil in a different way, to best suit their learning level.

Some parents are worried about their kids using too many digital devices, but Lee has tried to put their worries to rest, insisting that this change can be a big leap for Korea.

He said: “New changes can be scary [but] digital textbooks will be used with hard-cover textbooks, under the guidance of teachers.” He said that they’ll “strengthen teachers’ capabilities” and “transform” schools.
