Scientists in China and Hong Kong say that swarms of tiny, dust-sized robots could clear our sinus infections!

They’ve already tested it out on pigs and rabbits, and found that the robots exterminate bacteria with “no obvious tissue damage”.

Now, they’ve built a model to show how it could work on humans.

Here’s what happens:

Step one: The robots are injected through the nostrils into the sinuses.

Step two: They’re guided towards pus using magnets.

Step three: The robots are activated by heating them up with light.

The heat softens the pus, and once activated, the robots release reactive oxygen, which kills bacteria.

Experts reckon ‘nano robots’ could be treating bladder, intestine and sinus infections in ten years. One benefit of nano robots is that they go straight to the source of the infection without having to enter the bloodstream like drugs do.

However, it’s unclear whether robots being left behind in the sinuses could trigger side-effects. Researchers also accept that some people could be a bit suspicious about having tech inserted into their bodies.
