National School Sports Champion, Sir Mo Farah, is looking forward to a summer of sport – and we are, too!
Inside First News Issue 939 is a Euro 2024 wallchart to fill in results after the goals hit the back of the net. Scotland are first up on Friday 14 June as they take on Germany. England’s first game is on Sunday evening against Serbia.
Once the Euros have kicked off, we can look ahead to the Wimbledon tennis championship, one of the UK’s top sporting events, which starts on Monday 1 July. Both the Wimbledon men’s final and the Euros final take place on Sunday 14 July, so what a day that will be! Oh, and before that, the British Grand Prix races into action on Sunday 7 July at Silverstone.
Cyclists will be on their bikes for the 2024 Tour de France starting on 29 June, before the women follow with the Tour de France Femmes from 12 August.
Cricket’s The Hundred returns for a fourth year next month, with the final taking place at Lord’s on Sunday 18 August.
And, of course, all eyes will be on Paris for the Olympics from 26 July to 11 August. Then there’s the Paralympics from 28 August to 8 September, with more than 4,000 athletes competing in 22 sports.
