Should your school be able to make you cut your hair?

A boy could be thrown out of school for not cutting his hair.

Farouk, 12, is having a battle with his London school because it says his long locks don’t fit in with the uniform rules.

Farouk loves his hair, and he’s even been asked to be a model because his hair is so striking. But his school has said that if he doesn’t get it cut, he could be expelled.

Speaking to our partner Sky News children’s show, FYI, Farouk explained that he has his hair neatly braided for school, but teachers still won’t allow it.

The schoolboy thinks this is sexist and disrespectful of his culture. “In black British culture, black boys have braids,” he says.

Farouk is already being punished with detentions and has been told that being expelled will follow if he doesn’t cut his hair.

You can hear more from Farouk by watching the full episode (265) here.
