Should Wales be able to decide its own public holidays?

A WELSH council has voted to make St David’s Day a public holiday for its 5,000 staff, even though the UK Government has said ‘no’ to making it a national bank holiday.
St David is the patron saint of Wales and many feel he should be celebrated on 1 March. However, Wales is the only country in the UK that does not have the power to decide its own public holidays and Westminster has no plans to change the current arrangements.
Gwynedd councillor Nia Jeffreys said: “It is a national disgrace that, in Wales, we cannot choose and identify our own significant events.”
England doesn’t have a bank holiday for its patron, St George – but Scotland and Northern Ireland both have one for theirs, St Andrew and St Patrick.

I think we should not make it a holiday because not everyone in Wales is Christian.

Wales is an independent country, so shouldn't have to follow England's bank holidays.

I don't think they should because we work and they don't have to. Also its not fair on the other countries in my opinion.

I think that it should be made a holiday because if Scotland and Northern Ireland have their national holidays, why can't Wales have one for their patron saint? They are just as important, plus all of the other countries (England and Wales) have a holiday for Scotland and Northern Ireland's patron saints. Wales should have their own holiday too.

I think that Wales should be able to choose there own country's holidays as it is an independent country🏴.
