Health groups have joined forces to ask the government to increase taxes on unhealthy snacks.

The NHS says that one in ten children are obese by the time they start primary school – a figure that has crept up since last year.

There are 35 groups, including doctors, dentists and charities like Diabetes UK, who want the government to put higher taxes on salty and sugary snacks like cakes, crisps and sweets to persuade brands to make their products healthier.

Anna Taylor from the Food Foundation said: “The damage the food industry is doing to children’s health is the biggest threat to our nation’s wellbeing and future productivity.”

I agree. I think we need to put up the price of sugary foods and decrease the price of healthy food so that people with not much money can still afford to be healthy.
