Do you know what all the recycling symbols mean?

A STUDY has shown half of us get confused by recycling symbols.
A new report from Which? found that 48% of people can’t identify the correct symbol for recyclable packaging.
The researchers reckoned that the number of different recycling or sustainability symbols made it difficult to remember which symbol meant what.
What’s really worrying is this means that half of us could be recycling our household materials incorrectly.
Which? is now calling on the Government to make clear and simple recycling labelling compulsory.

It is really important to know all the signs because on the news loads of stuff is being said about wasting materials and it is affecting the environment.

I know what most of the recycling symbols mean but not all as it is hard to remember each one.

I don't know what the recycling symbols mean. I have seen them at school but I just think that's just a symbol that means you can recycle it. I didn't know they had different meanings.

I do know all of the recycling signs and I do think it is important to know them because there are many ocean pollutions near the coasts and so if we knew, we will be able to reduce the amount of plastic bottles and rubbish in the sea

I think we should know our recycling signs for the good of the planet!

I think we should all know the recycling signs by know because if we put the wrong waste in the wrong box
it may get recycled differently and pollute the environment.

I find all of the different recycling symbols really confusing because they all look like they are saying 'this product can be recycled'.

I think schools should teach us what the signs mean, so we know if we can recycle packaging or not; we might accidentally put recyclable packaging in the wrong bin if we don’t know what the symbol means.

I know lots but not all of them

I don’t think I really do. Lots of people on the news are talking about the incorrectly recycled packaging problem and how it’s affecting the world that we live in. I personally think that this world does not encourage the future generation the importance of recycling and this preservation of this world.

Sometimes, people don't see or draw the same symbol as it was originally drawn or seen. I understand all the recycling symbols, but I do understand that some people do not understand the symbols and get confused by them. It is ok to get confused by them but you have to learn what the symbol looks like and make sure you put the right things in the right bins. (Second to comment)

I do try to Recycle as much as I can but it all just goes in our main recycling bin. If I were asked to tell what each sign means, I do not think I could.

I don't know what all the recycling symbols mean. That is because we all know what to put into recycling bins due to the leaflets we receive, but we don't know what the symbols actually mean. I think now and then the 'Bin Men' should put leaflets round our houses just explaining what the symbols mean.

I don’t unfortunately know what the recycling symbols mean (not all of them at least) but they should definitely be teaching us.

Everyone should know all the symbols because if they did then we would all recycle better. Unfortunately, we don't all know them
bela · 6 years ago
it is very important we recycle and everyone should learn the correct symbol to prevent confusion

I don't know what the recycling symbols mean however, I will try my best to remember them. It is really important to learn them
honhon88 · 6 years ago
I don't know all the symbols but I want to and I think it's important for all this 'making a difference' for kids to know them so they can be more eco-friendly and more environment ideas can be actually carried out. Also, what's the point in them if no-one knows what they mean? That's what I think.

No, we are not taught about recycling and how to protect the environment at school. We need to be taught these things as, for our generation especially, we all need to be recycling.
