If you’re in secondary school, do you enjoy it as much as primary school?

A study of 100,000 pupils in England has found that enjoyment of school drops when you move up to Year 7.

Children in secondary school told researchers that they were having less fun, had lower levels of trust and felt less safe than those at primary school.

This was particularly the case for poorer pupils (those who qualify for free school meals), and the gap between them and their classmates widens as they move up through secondary school.

The study also found that girls feel safer than boys in Year 6, but less safe at secondary school.

Experts say the study is important, so that they know when, and how, to support pupils better, which means they’re less likely to skip school.

Margaret Mulholland, from the Association of School and College Leaders, said: “The transition [move] between primary and secondary school is a hugely important stage of a child’s education.”

How do you feel about it?

I like them the same, because they're really different and so some bits from primary school I miss, but there are lots of cool, new subjects and clubs in secondary school.
