We’re always being told we should eat five portions of fruit and veg a day for a healthy, balanced diet, but new research claims that we should be eating TEN portions a day to help us live longer.

If I tried hard enough and only drank orange juice then I probably could.
I personally don't see how we are ALL expected to eat TEN portions of fruit and veg every single day, so definitely no.
In a normal days three meals it would probably be quite hard to fit 10 portions of fruit and vegetables in normal meals ,however you may sometimes be able too???
If I really tried I could manage it. There's a massive variety of different healthy choices. Also, vegetarian spaghetti Bolognese has loads of vegetables in it, and so do some smoothies and juices.

I could eat a lot of pepper and carrots but not ten portions of different TYPES of fruit a day and it would get a bit boring.
How can we fit all our other foods into our system?
I think that five portions are enough without doubling it. Because some people don't even manage five.

I Would if I had to would eat that much fruit and vegetables I could eat two every hour so I vote yes

Ten a day is too much - you wouldn't have room to eat anything else!

yes i think it would be pretty easy if u had like salads and fruit salads just think how many fruit and veg there are in the world u could have a different one each day!!!

I eat lots of fruit; about 8/10 fruits and/ or veggies. So I will pass on that :)
I think that some people struggle with five day so I am not totally sure!
I probably could with my mums soup for every meal. but you shouldn't drink orange juice it's not healthy.
I think eating vegetables is very good for us and I think if I actually stuck to it I would be able to eat 10 portions of fruit and veg. Not that I would like it, obviously ? but I would try!
It would be so hard!! I mean, it's hard enough eating 5 a day so there is pretty much no way I could do it. Unless my school starts giving us the option of having a whole piece of fruit instead of a quarter. I could eat ten carrots a day but my skin would turn orange and the 10 fruits and vegetables have to be different types. ☹️????

People have to remember, even fruit and vegetables can make us 'proportionally challenged'! Eating five fruits or vegetables a day, can be a challenge(believe or not) because,generally, of the size of the food and how you eat it! Anyway, ten is a lot and you won't be able to have a lot of meals if your stuffed with ten fruits and veggies! Also, you need protein, some carbs,fruit and vegetables and the tiniest bit of fat to make your body healthy, so if you have to much fruit or veggies, your diet will not be as balanced as it could be.
And just imagine your lunchbox, overflowing with food!
I personally think we should stick to five.

I think that would be Very Hard - don't get me wrong. But if you really consider the meals you eat and what they have inside (especially veg) then it probably wouldn't be tooo hard. Although saying that with fruit it is hard because ,unless you have fruit salad) then it is hard with fruit because you have to eat it separately usually. Mixed opinions.??
To much fruit and veg I would rather but 10 fruits in a smotthy then that makes sense?????????

I couldn't. It is an awful lot of fruit and veg.
I think it's too unrealistic. Especially as they have to be DIFFERENT fruits.
5 is realistic but 10 I just couldn't do.
I think I could as long as I ate a variety of meat and sweets! Maybe it would make up for all the sweets I have had had today!
It's not as difficult as it sounds! I have two portions with each meal and thru grazing in the day....easily for the other 4 portions in!??
Why not? I usually have an afternoon snack with ten or more a day.
It could be any fruit. Even a variety of lots of portions of one fruit counts. Fruit salads, ripe fruits, grown fruits and bought fruits. Vegetables count too but it is still best to eat 10 fruits.
Just have fruity snacks.

I normally have more than ten portions of fruit and veg a day. I like broccoli, carrots, peppers, apple, bananas, berries, beetroot, parsnips, and dragonfruit!
I agree with happy4456 - we need more than just fibres.
I love peppers, oranges and cucumber but i am not sure I could eat 10 of them every day maybe every week but not every day.

At the moment, I eat about 7 portions a day without trying, so I could probably do 10.
I dont see how that is possible especially when you are having school meals you cant order meals you have to go with what they have.

It depends if we put in some effort to doing it. We need to at least try before we say 'no' or 'yes'.

I could probably manage to eat 10 portions of fruit and veg a day - I think most people probably could. If people are managing to eat 5 portions, they could have a glass of fruit juice with each portion, something like that.
People should be allowed to eat what they want. We should be responsible and make our own decisions.

I eat around that already! It's really important to eat healthily and make the right decisions about what you consume now, because it has a big affect on your life and future.

I snack on stuff like chocolate and biscuits so I could swap to fruit and veg. Plus everyone could add veg to meals ❗️

It is already pretty hard to eat 5, and many people struggle with it, so I think they should make sure everyone is eating their 5-a-day before increasing it. However, I don't think they should make it compulsory or force you or anything, maybe just encourage it, then eventually everyone will naturally eat 10 portions.

No if I had three fruits for every meal and one for a snack I could but I don't think that will happen!
i am defo not. its really hard cause u always forget or get bored and eat rubbish. i never knew that you u had to eat that much fruit and veg a DAY! some days i eat more fruit and veg then others but i will probs try a bit harder to eat more good stuff. But for most people it is probs quite hard!!!

it is bad for you as it makes your blood sugar levels too high and then it makes you.... well...larger

No. You would have to eat LOADS AND LOADS OF FOOD. Everything you eat would have to be one of your '10' a day. Which would be really annoying

I have to say no ok yes you could do it if you ate 1 banana, apple, for breakfast , cucumber, tomato for lunch, orange, carrot sticks for snacks, pepper, baby sweet corn for dinner, strawberry and blueberry for desert but no ones going to do that everyday

shpee, orange juice only counts as 1 no matter how much you drink because it contains lots of sugar

That's ridiculous. A few years ago they increased five a day to seven a day but ten!!!

I struggle to have five. Even though I do make sure to do that, if you are camping or on holiday it would be a burden to have to worry about eating 10 portions of fruit a day.
