Does your school offer football to girls?

THE England women’s team and a head teachers’ union have asked the Government to make sure that girls have as much chance to play football at school as boys.

The Lionesses’ amazing win in the Women’s Euro 2022 final has highlighted that lots of girls want to play, but don’t always get the chance.

That’s either because their school doesn’t offer football to girls, or because there are no local girls’ clubs.

The England players wrote a joint letter to Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak, the two candidates left in the race to be the next prime minister. It said they were often stopped from playing football and asked for help to “create real change in this country”.

The Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) said it’d be a “good idea” for the Government to look at the guidance that schools get.

However, the Government has said that the National Curriculum for PE doesn’t have any differences between the sexes, and that schools themselves decide which sports to offer their pupils.

So if you want to play football at school but can’t, demand it! Get your friends together and let your school know that you want to play.

the lioness' win shows that girls can be just as good as boys at football

My school has a general football club for boys and girls but I think that it would be better for a girls football club as well so that we can have the chance to play with more girls. The current club only has 3 girls including me.

On a Friday after lunch, there is a girls football group run by Morecombe FC

My school offers football to girls but it seems that many more boys play football and it is often shown as the more 'masculine sport'. I think that the lionesses are very inspiring and no girl should be afraid to play football.

My school does offer it but it is very limited and occasional that we get to play tournaments or anything line that.

Our school didnt let us play football for the 6 and a half years I was there and rarely did it in PE. There was a club but it wasn't free or practical. Then as soon I was about to leave, they introduced it then removed it as quickly as they added it so no we were not

my school does a girl's football team and a boy's football team. I think my school encourages girls to play football.

Although my school lets me play football they still pick the boys over the girls even if the girls are better ! I play for a boys and girls team and those coaches would pick me over lots of the boys picked for the school team !!

My school offers football to girls and often organises football tournaments for us to play.

My school runs after school football clubs although there were only a couple of girls who attended

My school likes the idea of girls playing football because of the Euros but the boys in my class definitely don’t. They never pass to the girls, even when they are trying their hardest. I am in a girls football team out of school and I’m trying to prove myself to the boys in my class. I hope in September that they will think differently because of the Euros.

I hope everyone will realise that the Lionesses are good at football and will start recognising that girls are capable to do what boys can do. ⚽️⚽️⚽️👧🏼👧🏼👧🏼👧🏼

My school doesn't do football as a proper sport in PE lessons, and anyone can play at breaktime. More boys than girls actually do it, but we have an equal chance.

To be honest, I literally have no idea. Few girls like football at my school but girls should be allowed to play football anyway.

In my school, some girls play football and my school offers a boys and a girls after-school club. In PE , everyone has to do football. I don't like football, so I don't do the club but I know people who do and its quite popular. They have they're own matches too.

Girls have access to football at my school because our PE coach is female so she really encourages the girls to play and we tried out girls football only on Fridays

randomico · 2 years ago

Lol, my school can’t even afford chairs how could they afford football

max1234 · 2 years ago

The school doesn’t mind, as long as it’s on the field.

My school has foot ball ⚽️ for girls and I think that it’s really important because then girls get to try and then it’s all fair

maijun · 2 years ago

It wouldn't be fair if no girls played football because some girls might like playing football

lottielou · 2 years ago

Yes but zero tournaments unlike boys football
