Do you always wear sunscreen in summer?

A sunscreen that costs £28 has failed an annual safety test that a £2.99 supermarket version passed easily!

Consumer watchdog Which? tested 15 different sunscreens to help us choose the best ones to protect ourselves through the summer.

Two failed on safety. Ultrasun Family SPF30, which sells for £28, failed to provide enough protection from ultraviolet rays. Morrisons SPF30 also failed, falling short of the sun protection factor (SPF) it claimed to provide.

Ultrasun has rejected the Which? findings and says it’s “fully confident” in its own safety tests. However, Morrisons says it will investigate and carry out more tests.

It was better news for budget supermarkets Aldi and Lidl. Aldi’s £2.99 Lacura Sensitive Sun Lotion SPF50+ and Lidl’s Cien Sun Spray SPF30 were Which?’s top picks for great value.

Natalie Hitchins, from Which?, said the results show that “there’s no need to splash out to keep you and your loved ones safe in the sun”.
