5 MAY: LONDON, ENGLAND – Conservator Cathy Littlejohn touches up the paintwork on the astronomical clock from a cherry picker as it undergoes conservation at Hampton Court Palace. The astronomical clock, which still functions today, was designed for Henry VIII by Nicolaus Kratzer and built in 1540. Historic Royal Palaces are currently cleaning and preserving the paintwork on the clock as it deteriorates from exposure to sunlight and weather.
