Do you think Pepsi was right to pull the advert from TV screens?

Pepsi had to withdraw a new big-budget advert starring Kendall Jenner, after a social media storm popped Pepsi’s bubble.

The ad shows Instagram fave Jenner leaving a photoshoot to join a protest. The epic two-and-a-half minute ad ends with Jenner handing a can of Pepsi to a policeman watching over the protest, and the slogan ‘live bolder’ flashing on screen.

Although the world is divided about many things at the moment, pretty much everyone agreed that it was a bad advert. Many people called it the worst ad they’d ever seen.

“It is so bad I think ‘doing a Pepsi’ will enter the language as a way to describe something highly inappropriate and embarrassing,” said Seb Hill from ad agency BBD Perfect Storm.

But what was everyone’s problem with it?

One of the main criticisms was that the ad copied lots of serious incidents, such as the Black Lives Matter protests about police violence, and suggested that a can of pop could solve it all.

The outrage was so strong that Pepsi pulled the advert less than 24 hours after it was first shown. The company said on Twitter: “Pepsi was trying to project a global message of unity, peace and understanding. Clearly we missed the mark, and we apologise. We did not intend to make light of any serious issue.” They also apologised for “putting Kendall Jenner in this position”.

The world's problems cannot be solved with a can of soda. Sorry to break it to you Pepsi!

gaggy116 · 7 years ago

yes because people were upset with it, and they would have to watch it

Rich companies shouldn't use oppressed people's struggles to make money. That is exploitation.

mathsisfun · 7 years ago

That is basically bribing which is bad so yes although I agree that Pepsi is yum.

scootz · 7 years ago

This ad doesn't make any sense at all. In my own opinion the ad is about demonstrating and drinking pepsi spot the difference

mjmd222 · 7 years ago

I agree with artcrazy.

shpee · 7 years ago

No, because it did something that nothing else could: It united the world as one in realising how awful adverts can be.
But, seriously I think they made the right decision in pulling it from tv.

Earth's problems can't be solved with a can of Pepsi.

apple958 · 7 years ago

The advert was misunderstood by many people and gave the wrong message, so i think pepsi was right to take the advert off tv.

Terrible, just terrible

lolyolo · 7 years ago

Pepsi made a mistake but seriously the ad has made loads of people upset

tamara2005 · 7 years ago

It encourages people to stop drinking lots of sugar drinks because they don't see it so much on the television and then they don't think about it so much.

norensanz · 7 years ago

yes their crazy

VAHC · 7 years ago

they did not have the right to say that protests had anything to do with pepsi

happy4456 · 7 years ago

I voted no because now that I understand why Pepsi withdrew the advert, I think it is bad that Pepsi pointed that message out, even if they didn't mean to.
And honestly, I still don't know what this advert actually means!!!!

radishes10 · 7 years ago

They made a big mistake, which used bad events and tried to sort things out with a Pepsi, but the message didn't come across and people got upset by it. I think it's the right desicion and also it was giving of a bad message for Pepsi and Kendall Jenner, and it also benefited Pepsi and Jenner by pulling it off the screens??

but that's just what I think so your welcome to disagree with me!?

nbeausang · 7 years ago

yes they showed some bad events and are just saying they can all be solved if you buy a can of soda

ernie4545 · 7 years ago

pepsi can NOT save all the worlds issues so this add is definitely a no no

sophette · 7 years ago

Yes!!

banjoblaze · 7 years ago

Honestly I understand having a bit of a joke and a can of fizzy drink every now and then, but I think that this particular advert was a bad decision. They were clearly going to end up offending someone with it, and that's pointless just for an unhealthy drink. I've never tried Pepsi but I seriously doubt that this was worth it. (Although I can't really get het up about this. It was just a video gone wrong.)

jkw7 · 7 years ago

No. Why listen to a group that hate the police?!

puppy20 · 7 years ago

Yes! This can put really dangerous thoughts in young children's minds to make them think that Pepsi can solve everything! Also, I feel really sorry for Kendall Jenner because now she will have so much criticism...

Kids1 · 7 years ago

they were right to pull it.the planets problems can't be HELPED by pepsi. nopity nope nope nope

wren · 7 years ago

I can see why people found it offensive, it's pretty insensitive to suggest that a bottle of Pepsi can change the world and solve everyone's problems. To some people, those problems are real, not just something you see in an advertisement.

tincan · 7 years ago

i don't really know because i don't really understand the ad can someone plz explain it??

Eris2005 · 7 years ago

It probably wasn't the best way of getting the message about peace and unity across. And anyway soda isn't going to solve anything.

twinies · 7 years ago

I think it was totally wrong to put that advert on TV so I am glad they took it down.?

kawaii101 · 7 years ago

YES!!! The ad was taking serous problems and turning it into something light and happy when most of these problems are very sad. I feel that it is very insulting to some people who are involved in these problems. For example protests in America. Its sad to have to watch the ad turning these problems into something that can be solved with a can of pepsi!

tdh123 · 7 years ago

they are just trying to advertise it but artcrazy you are right

scruff2007 · 7 years ago

dotmatilda · 7 years ago

i'm not quite sure

nutellaxxx · 7 years ago

I know people were upset with it and you may not like this comment but I don't think it was as bad to take it off tv.

leahpanda4 · 7 years ago

Although it may have been meant to be about peace it was very easily read the wrong way so it definitely was right to take it down.

gavriella · 7 years ago

pepsi was wrong to put the advert up.but at least they put it down.

ninjahari · 7 years ago

I don't like Pepsi or that ad.

melon_cow7 · 6 years ago

I said YES because there are lots of bad things in the world that can’t exactly be solved with a can of pepsi

redindian9 · 6 years ago

These days adverts are going too far. I saw an ad that looked really cool, and I was quite exited, because I thought scientists had invented a cyborg, but it turns out it was a car ad. Also, perfume and cologne ads are a bit innapropriate.

fox64 · 6 years ago

Does Pepsi taste nice? I have never had any.

katkid10 · 4 years ago

I agree that Pepsi should have stopped it.
