A RARE Malayan tiger was shot and killed at Naples Zoo in Florida, after he bit a man’s arm and wouldn’t let go.
Police were called when a security guard found River Rosenquist, 26, screaming. He had climbed a barrier then put his arm through the tiger’s cage, possibly to feed or stroke it, when eight-year-old male tiger Eko (above) grabbed his arm. The zoo was closed and, although Rosenquist works there as a cleaner, he had no business being in the area, the zoo said. Since the zoo was closed, there were no staff available who could have tranquillised the tiger, and the sheriff’s office said that the deputy sheriff had “made the only possible decision he could in order to save this man’s life”.

Most online comments didn’t support the decision to shoot the tiger, although the man could have bled to death otherwise. Do you think the police made the right decision? Take part in our poll and share your thoughts in the comments below.

All animals have the right to life, and shouldn't be killed, especially if they are just acting on their natural instincts. Humans are aware of how tigers can behave, so shouldn't take rash actions like sticking their arm in a cage. The tiger shouldn't have to die because of someone else's error.

In this situation, he broke the law and entered through closing times. But in a regular situation where someone is just near an enclosure and the tiger starts attacking their arm, then yes. Shoot it.

Do not shoot the Tiger. Seriously. Don't even consider it.

The person had no right to be there and it wasn't a very clever idea to stick their arm through the cage in any case. The tiger shouldn't have been killed. Anyway what I want to know is why the tiger was in the captivity of a zoo in the first place?

Killing a rare tiger is wrong. Tigers deserve to live as much as humans do.

The animals are ok its the man's falt for going in the tigers pen!

I don’t think it’s right as the tiger’s instinct was to attack human and the man shouldn’t have gone so close to the tiger anyways. However I don’t think the man should die either so the zoo should have tranquillised the tiger instead.

I think they should have shot the tiger with a tazer it would have paralyzed i'm but not killed him.

No it is absolutely not ok because the tiger is a living creature. Also, the man was in after closing times, and he was being really stupid. What do you expect a tiger to do if an arm is poking through the bars?

why has a nosy man got more right to live then a rare tiger following his natural instinct?

free the tiger not shoot it
buzzard86 · 3 years ago
It was the man's fault he got bitten.

The tiger has a right to live and the animals were here before us anyway

The tiger probably thought the man was a threat. It automatically attacked the threat. If the zoo can't deal with that, why would they capture it in the zoo in the first place.

The police shouldn't have shot the tiger especially as it was a rare species.

The man was acting idiotically and the tiger was acting naturally.

If the tiger wasnt rare i would understsnd but there are 7 billion people and few tigers.

No one should shoot a rare tiger even to save someone's life. We've already killed so many animals I VOTE NO! Sincerely Aora21

It is the mans fault apparently he was trying to feed the tiger. He was a cleaner ,that man should go into court and explain why he was there in the first place .I think he needs to go to prison because he broke the law .Anyway why was there even a tiger in captivity .

If an animal hurts a human particularly a carnival they are just acting upon there natural instincts and shouldn’t be shot. However if it hurts people multiple times and threatens to/kills a human i see where it would be acceptable to put the animal down
panda89 · 3 years ago
for the people saying free the tiger often you can’t because zoos are the things actually keeping rare animals alive and stopping becoming extinct x But if it was bad conditions then yes

No! They shouldn’t have shot it! They could’ve loured the tiger away from him with a piece of meat 🥩 and called the ambulance 🚑

No it was the own man's fault he got injured the tiger meant no harm

Exactly!

i don't think any should be killed, but in this case the animal was committing murder, the human probably did nothing wrong. Being shot in some parts of the world is a punishment for humans committing murder, so the tiger, sadly, even if it was rare, needed it punishment to stop.

I agree

The tiger doesn't know any better!! Maybe we shouldn't be trying to pet wild animals? And maybe we shouldn't even have them in zoos in the first place?

I agree with blackmamba

They shouldn't shoot the tiger since it is the man's fault that he tried to stroke the tiger, and the tiger wouldn't have died if the man hadn't tried to stroke it
