PRESIDENT-ELECT Joe Biden will be inaugurated on Wednesday 20 January, meaning he becomes the 46th President of the United States. This follows him winning the Presidential election at the end of last year.
But it won’t be a normal ceremony for a few reasons.
The coronavirus pandemic and new security worries following violence last week by a mob supporting outgoing President Donald Trump means there will be changes to what is a historical American day.
Joe Biden is expected to arrive in America’s capital city, Washington DC, by train – his favourite way to travel. See our “WOW!” below.
He will still be sworn in on the steps of the Capitol Building, the scene of last week’s riots. Although there are fears about more protests, Joe Biden said on Monday: “I am not afraid to take the oath outside.”
Biden will be joined by Kamala Harris (right), the first female and the first Asian-American vice president of the United States.
She said: “While I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last.” They will both lay a wreath after they take the oath.
The Bidens will receive a presidential escort to the White House (above) after his swearing-in. Celebration events will be smaller than usual because of the health risks from the coronavirus pandemic.
There are very few tickets for the ceremony and viewing stands have been taken down to discourage crowds. Normally people gather along the National Mall to celebrate, but the parade is being replaced by a virtual parade.
The parade will celebrate America’s heroes, and highlight Americans from all backgrounds, in different states and regions, reflecting the country’s diversity.
The theme for the event will be ‘America United’ – after Donald Trump is said to have caused so much division in the country during his time as president.

I think that he will be a good president because he has much experience and will be able to see the best ways to lead the USA instead of DT (we will never say his name again) leading the USA down the bad ways. I also hope that he will make sure that the wall across the border of Mexico will be taken down.

I think Joe Biden will be a much better president than Donald, because Donald only cares about money and business and has no consideration for the environment. With Joe Biden as president of America I can see that all changing!

Biden has said that he will reverse some of Trumps controversial decisions, such as the construction of the border wall and the exit of WHO and the Paris Climate agreement. I think he will unite America and restore peace and democracy.

I think Joe Biden will be a good president because he’s had so much experience and he has promised great things (to reverse some of Donald Trump’s decisions and to agree to the París agreement) I think he’ll be as positive impact on America with the help of Kamalda Harris.

I think Joe Biden will be a good President. He has already joined the Paris Agreement; this is wonderful news, as the USA is the 2nd-largest Carbon Dioxide emitter. This will definitely help in the fight against Climate Change! Additionally, he appointed Kamala Harris as Vice President, which supports equality in general; she is the first female, African-American and Asian-American Vice President.
