Would you watch a film that stars an AI actor?

AN Artificially Intelligent (AI) robot actor has been given a starring role in a $70 million movie (£56.4m).

Meet Erica, the AI star of a new sci-fi film, called b, which is about an artificially intelligent woman, also called Erica, who escapes from the lab that created her.

Usually, Erica’s part might be played by a CGI character, or an actor in make-up. Instead, the film-makers decided to work with Japanese scientists Hiroshi Ishiguro and Kohei Ogawa to actually build a robot actor.

One of the visual effects artists behind the film explained just what that meant. “She was created from scratch to play the role! [We had to] control the speed of her movements, talking through her feelings and coaching character development and body language.”

No because it wouldn't be as interesting or emotional

jediknight · 4 years ago

so what its a film and it doesn't matter who acts it

first to put yes!!!!!!

stargrl · 4 years ago

What type of movie is it? I don't like horror movies...

arya · 4 years ago

I vote yes, because even though it wouldn't be the same, and I would rather watch a human actor, I think it would be interesting to see what it's like and how realistic it was. Except for one thing:

There'd be no bloopers! A robot would do it all perfectly, and who doesn't love to see bloopers?
🤣

sarah.m · 4 years ago

No because think of the people that may lose their jobs if they got replaced by an Al actor. I know that this is about whether you would like to watch a film with one in no matter what, whether someone lost their job or not, but people may begin to like them and people lose their jobs, so in order to not risk that than i want less films with them in.

sarah.m · 4 years ago

also it is a waste of time to programme one

candyv · 4 years ago

I think that using a robot as an actor is the same thing as using CG so i say yes.

sunnysmilz · 4 years ago

I don't care whether it's a robot or not

redowlz7 · 4 years ago

No because AIs would ruin a part and it would sound unrealistic.

lune · 4 years ago

Yes. Why wouldn't you - the plot seems quite interesting and she might be trained to be a really good actress.

lune · 4 years ago

But it is kinda creepy tho

codonnell · 4 years ago

It would be interesting to see what it's like and it could give script writers even more ideas.although, if it had no emotion, it would be unrealistic

musiclovr · 4 years ago

I would definitely love to because I love acting and coding and it would be my dream to see them both put together.

jedboi · 4 years ago

JEDBOI LIIKES ROBOTS

cutiecat · 4 years ago

I think it would be good because now, robots can not spread disease

becca_bc · 4 years ago

I think this is a bad idea because it has lost someone’s job and they might need the money or are starting acting. This could be the start of many losing their jobs and a lot of money. If this happens then it could be an economic crisis. Plus you can’t see the feeling, emotion and all around passion in their face. THIS IS TERRIBLE!

pumpkin135 · 4 years ago

It would not be as exciting if you knew you were watching a AI rather than a real person.

hsxoxo8 · 4 years ago

yes because there is a great chance that you would not guess if the actor was AI or not unless you knew firsthand. you cannot say it wouldn’t be as interesting or emotional, or be unrealistic as you don’t know until you’ve seen it!

sarah.m · 4 years ago

does anyone care about people losing their jobs because of Al?

sarah.m · 4 years ago

does anyone care about people losing their jobs because of Al?

sarah.m · 4 years ago

does anyone care about the fact that people lose their jobs because of Al?

sarah.m · 4 years ago

oh soz i said that twice

sarah.m · 4 years ago

i just want to say that it is a bad idea - HUH? i have just realized - robots are going to take over the world and thats what steven haawkings said aswell as bill gates and some others. Al actors are going to be part of that!!!!!!!!!!!!

sarah.m · 4 years ago

me = genius

unicorn248 · 4 years ago

Yes, I would as a film is a film. On the other hand, it's worrying that every job could be taken over by AI.

opalstar · 4 years ago

I agree with Lune it may be creepy

ava111 · 4 years ago

I'm saying no because there would be lots of changes to the look and sound .

kuhuzoo9 · 4 years ago

It’s not a bad idea but I would only do it if there was emotion or awesome acting

kuhuzoo9 · 4 years ago

I am sure that there will🙂

kuhuzoo9 · 4 years ago

But then people may have less jobs and lose opportunities to become actors
Sooo??🤨

crystalx27 · 4 years ago

Yes because why judge a book by its cover? It could be an amazing film for all we know!

ameliau · 4 years ago

I would like to watch a Movie with a AI. I would like because I would like to see how the intelligent robots impact the reviews of the movie; if they can make the movie better and more interesting for the viewers or make it worse and make the regular vewiers turn off their screens. I would love to see the movie Erica is in ( Erica is the Artificial Intelligent robot) because it would be nice to see how all the mechanics work and what happens behind scenes. I personally think all the creators and engineersand (and of course everyone else involved in this procedure) they are incredibly talented and should really carry on with their fantastic creations and their magnificent career.

Well Done everybody and everything, which is involved in the making of the movie.

Keep doing what your doing

You just can’t film most films with an AI actor, as AI cannot play characters with any emotion, as it will not come across as wholly real.

arya · 4 years ago

I think that they wouldn't make a film, even with an AI actor, if it didn't look realistic, and if they already planned this (which they must have to have been working on a robot for such a long time!) then it probably wasn't an actor who lost their job, as they probably planned to have a robot from the start. However I do agree that if they do a lot of these AI stars, that lots of actors could loose their jobs, but I think that it's just a one off. I still vote yes as it would be interesting!

redtoad · 4 years ago

How would you know if it is AI or not?

superdork · 4 years ago

I wouldn’t really fancy watching a film with AI actors..... but then they’re maybe the future?🤔

ninjahorse · 4 years ago

i said no coz there will be no actors will have a job if ai actors take over

mdob · 4 years ago

It wouldn’t be as interesting and emotional and behind the scenes wouldn’t be as interesting 🧐

xkruger · 4 years ago

It would be great for a movie where a robot tries to be human :]

wildlife12 · 4 years ago

Yes because it’s Japanese. 🇯🇵

ezme200200 · 4 years ago

wont be able to do lots

ninjahorse · 4 years ago

stargrl, who cares!

tennis22 · 4 years ago

How much difference does it make??
I don’t know if it was really high-tech it might be ok but not as good

puzzlepeas · 4 years ago

So what if there's a robot actor? It's still a movie!
I vote yes!!!!!!

ivansp2011 · 4 years ago

You can not judge if it is bad or not because you never seen it.Also, there might not be as much AI actors if we don't make too much.It is all on humans...

redwolfx · 4 years ago

Why not

pickles7 · 4 years ago

It would be weird and you wouldn't get that emotional connection with the actor

catfood86 · 4 years ago

I voted yes because, although it wouldn't be impressive in the same way as a human actor, it is impressive that people have created a robot actor. I wouldn't like plays and movies to have 100 percent robot actors as it wouldn't be as impressive after a while and people would lose their jobs, but especially since the robot is playing an AI character I think in this scenario it is perfectly fine and very cool.

panda89 · 4 years ago

I think so because it would be interesting but maybe not as emotional

emilynight · 4 years ago

No because then they’ll take over and if u want to be a human actor u have no chance cause robots will replace u🥴👎🏾

mai140509 · 4 years ago

No because technology cant express emotions and feelings as well as human beings

crystalx27 · 4 years ago

I think we should just give it a chance. You never know how it'll turn out until you've watched it!

fierygirl · 3 years ago

I don't think so because it said an artificially intelligent woman so wouldn't she be a cyborg and show emotions and not move rigidly, right?

rhubarbf · 3 years ago

It depends on the movie.

weirdcat · 3 years ago

I honestly don't see why not. Though yes, it depends on the movie. Is it appropriate for kids?

weirdcat · 3 years ago

I agree with catfood86.
