Should vaccinations be made compulsory?

Polls

4th October 2019

Pupils who aren’t up to date with their vaccinations could be banned from school, as health ministers plan a crackdown on the spread of preventable diseases.

Matt Hancock, the health secretary, has urged parents to “take responsibility” and make sure their child is fully vaccinated before starting school, in a bid to stop diseases spreading.

In Britain, children are offered 13 routine injections by the NHS between birth and the age of five. The falling number of families opting to take part in the vaccination programme has prompted an investigation about whether they should become compulsory.

This summer the UK lost its ‘measles-free’ status after the disease, which can be prevented with a course of injections, made a comeback.

Should vaccinations be made compulsory?

It is necessary so we do not start spreading illness to school children with long and bright futures ahead of them.

marla_cat · 5 years ago

So many people are dying from things that they could stop and I think parents also need to be told about what could happen to Britain when they decide not to vaccinate

irock122 · 5 years ago

I think that this is a very hard decision but I think it would be better if they were compulsory because of the chance of other students catching a disease.

battboy321 · 5 years ago

there could be a major sickness and the unvacsinated people could die

ameliau · 5 years ago

I think Vaccinations should be compulsory, it's not that I don't believe in democracy I do. It is just if families aren't having vaccinations before they start school they could spread around serious diseases. Which will affect our publicity and our environment and also our animals. So families that don't go to their vaccinations multiple times you really need to start doing it. Although if you live in a poor country you might have a serious illness. Which will make your country or people and your environment along with animals. Families really need to go to their vaccinations multiple times so their country can stay nice and healthy. #FIRST TO COMMENT. #GO TO YOUR VACCINATIONS BEFORE SCHOOL

dynamaniac · 5 years ago

It is basic human rights to be given a choice.

teamgorbo1 · 5 years ago

Yes, they should be compulsory because it puts other people at risk and also the child. Who would want their child to get ill?

mr.shark08 · 5 years ago

Yes because if they choose no and go to school then other people will could fall ill if they have it.

mimyays · 5 years ago

I think that people should be able to choose if they want to be vaccinated or not as the side effects can be risky for some people. Everyone should have a choice because some vaccines are against some religious beliefs.

Ps
First to comment again!!!

rosyrabbit · 5 years ago

I personally think that everybody should be able to have a choice to be vaccinated or not, I come from a steiner school where it's normal to NOT be vaccinated, I also respect the views of other people who choose to be vaccinated

rosyrabbit · 5 years ago

But if a child comes to school ill (vaccinated or not vaccinated that's another matter

lottielove · 5 years ago

I think that it IS compulsory to have vaccinations for things like measles and stuff but I think people should have an option of what they want to do. I think if it's for things like the Flu it's not COMPULSORY but I would DEFINATELY do it.

lottielove · 5 years ago

I did it once and I was lucky I did because a few weeks later my dad had the Flu, it was very useful because I could go near him and help him without catching anything!

People should have injections to prevent them from having diseases so be banned from school if not up to date with them to encourage more children to have injections.

meowcats45 · 5 years ago

i think they should be compulsory, i don`t want people to die of preventable diseases!

book_girl · 5 years ago

I think they should be compulsory because they can leave people who have taken precautions ill. Also some people don't want one because it hurts and try to get out of it.

9dolphin · 5 years ago

I think they should be compulsory. It is much nicer for the person having the vaccination in the long run and you can die not having it.

lilpenguin · 5 years ago

I think it is important to get vaccinated but some people might have medical reasons why they can't have a vaccination.

heh · 5 years ago

Some kids have the opposite affect when vaccinated. Sometimes, children can develop serious illnesses as the vaccine does not work against their immunity system. However, 98% of people who get vaccinated do not get the disease. I do not think it should made compulsory, but you should definitely have it. You should be able to have a choice over what you do and don't do.

heh · 5 years ago

But what if the illness is not being spread by not having the vaccination? You can't blame it all on not having a vaccination!

gogogirl09 · 5 years ago

I think people should have an option

iswizz10 · 5 years ago

I think it would be better if they were compulsory because then we wouldn’t have to worry about getting diseases and people wouldn’t have to make the decision on whether or not they give their child vaccinations. Also the politicians and government wouldn’t have to decide about vaccinations and their good and bad qualities, so could spend more time talking about more important issues like climate change and brexit.

iswizz10 · 5 years ago

Unless there is a real reason why you wouldn’t be able to have a vaccinations. Eg. Medical reason

marla_cat · 5 years ago

I think It should be compulsory except if you are allergic to one of the things in the vaccines. Then everyone who wasn't allergic wouldn't get the diseases, and the people who couldn't get the vaccine would never get them either because everyone else vaccinated

safaripig · 5 years ago

They do help, but it is so rare to get flu. I don't agree.

krit · 5 years ago

It is necessary so we do not start spreading illness across the country

rockstar13 · 5 years ago

Yes, they should be compulsory because people can spread infections and it can help make you healthier.

junior19 · 5 years ago

Vaccinate

v_venkie · 5 years ago

I think vaccinations should be compulsory as they can spread diseases to other people. People can sometimes get really bad illness which leads that people can't get more education.

firekid5 · 5 years ago

Everybody should be vaccinated, unless they have a medical condition, so that everyone is safe from disease and illness. It is not fair on the people (and animals) that catch the illness because of a silly decision.

squish123 · 5 years ago

Not vaccinating puts not just you at risk, but also the millions of people in this country that are immunosurpressed and can't have vaccines. They rely on everyone else being vaccinated so that they don't catch serious diseases from others. Vaccinating should be compulsory as the side effects are extremely rare and the disease is much worse than any side effect.

codonnell · 5 years ago

I think that it's a good idea but children may feel that they are being forced into something and become worried about it. It's a hard decision.

oceangirl · 4 years ago

I think they should be made compulsory because then we can live in a safer and healthier environment

5honypony · 4 years ago

I believe it should be necessary for certain illnesses such as the measles, that can spread easily, but otherwise people should have the option, eve though I believe vaccinations are excellent

abinews · 4 years ago

They should definitely be made compulsory as it would save a lot of trouble, suffering and lives. If you have an opportunity to get vaccinated, do think of the millions of people who don't have access to this. Vaccinations should be compulsory but only to a certain level for if a vaccine could potentially put your lives in danger, the doctors or families should be able to sat no.

purplebook · 4 years ago

I think it would be good if they were compulsory but you should be given a choice and what if you have a religion or an allergy which forbids you to have a vaccination. Also I would like there to be democracy within Britain

drduck · 4 years ago

Even though we should all be given a choice in life (its a human right), Its compulsory to prevent disease or illness. Parents NOT giving children vaccinations need to start thinking about other peoples health, its not just one child's health.

deaddragon · 4 years ago

i am slighty scared of vacitions. but i think it should be compulsery for the ingention but if they dont want to do it then dont do it and have a higher death chace.

pinkiepie1 · 4 years ago

We need to make sure children and adults are vaccinated because if someone is vaccinated, they will indirectly help the community.

bamboomilk · 4 years ago

OMG! :) I should have put no. I am laughing so hard right now! If people haven't had the flu jab they can come to school! LIKE ANYBODY ELSE IS GONNA GET IT! (If you don't get what I mean I am saying that if someone had the flu and they don't realise, and everyone had the flu jab, OF COURSE THEY CAN COME TO SCHOOL)! Someone who hasn't got the flu jab might get it but, hey, it's their decision, they didn't get the flu jab.

redrubyguy · 4 years ago

I am not a huge fan of vaccinations, either. I understand why some do not trust them. However, unless a better alternative shows up, vaccinations should be made compulsory for DEADLY AND CONTAGIOUS DISEASES ONLY for now.

beachgirl · 4 years ago

What is the harm of having a vaccine? It doesn’t hurt you!

katkid10 · 4 years ago

When you are babies your parents can choose whether you have a vaccine against the measles or not.

superpug27 · 4 years ago

This is hard. There are SO many different points to this poll, very good question btw. One point is that people should have their own options and instead of FORCING somebody to take this ‘miracle vaccine’ seems very wrong and violating human rights. What I mean is that anyone could get their hands onto a vaccine and because they’re compulsory, they have to take it when it could be dangerous. Another point is that there are parents that believe in far fetched conspiracy theories and refuse to give their child modern medicine. I voted No because I feel like people have their own rights to decide whether or not they want to give their child medicine. Still, it’s a major problem that parents aren’t giving their child proper treatment and I think we can move forward to help them.
