THE Children’s Commissioner for England is calling for all young people to be given advice about using social media.
Anne Longfield wants digital literacy to be taught in all primary schools, to help children cope with the pressures of using social media sites in today’s world.
A report called Life in Likes found that lots of children aged eight to 12 are using Instagram, Snapchat and WhatsApp – even though these sites are blocked to under-13s.
Social media – what’s the problem?
Researchers have found that the use of social media is causing many children to become anxious and over-dependent on getting likes and comments, especially as they move up into secondary school.
Following the lives of celebrities and others can also put pressure on young people, making them worry about appearance, money and lifestyle.
Anne is calling for digital and online lessons to be taught in schools to better prepare you for the “emotional side of social media”.

I think it is good that they have banned using smartphones before school starts, because school pupils would proabaly be playing on them. Also, many people have SIM cards, and they text each other even though they are sitting right next to each other. Phones are fun, but I think you should be limited to one or two hours a day on them.

Yes it definitely needs to be taught as that way people will feel less anxious about themselves and it will also help them to be there selves and communicate with each other easily
