5 JULY: BERLIN, GERMANY – China’s President Xi Jinping and German Chancellor Angela Merkel take part in a welcoming ceremony for two panda bears at the Zoologischer Garten zoo. The pandas – named Meng Meng and Jiao Qing – have been loaned by Beijing to Berlin zoo in a sign of friendly ties.
