A VAN has hit 11 worshippers leaving a mosque in north London.
The incident happened in the early hours of Monday (19 June) morning.
One of the victims was killed. The other ten were injured. All were believed to be Muslims taking part in evening prayers after breaking the Ramadan fast.
The hire van mounted the pavement just after midnight near Finsbury Park Mosque.
The attacker has now been arrested.
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said that more police are being deployed to keep people safe and calm communities, especially those observing Ramadan.
The Mayor said: “While this appears to be an attack on a particular community, like the terrible attacks in Manchester, Westminster and London Bridge, it is also an assault on shared values of tolerance, freedom and respect.”
He wants people everywhere to “remain calm and vigilant”.
The incident is being described as a “potential terrorist attack”.
Prime Minister Theresa May has said: “All my thoughts are with those who have been injured, their loved ones and the emergency services on the scene.”
Home Secretary Amber Rudd said: “We must continue to stand together, resolute, against all those who try to divide us and spread hate and fear.”
