It’s a tradition enjoyed by lots of families in this digital age, but police have warned parents that posting those photos to social media can reveal dangerous personal information to strangers.

Sussex Police advised parents against publicly posting photos that reveal your age, school, address and other important details about your families’ lives and daily routines, because it can be useful to criminals.

The Internet Watch Foundation said parents should remove, block or blur things like your school badge and house number, switch off location tagging and set their accounts to private.

If you’re over 13 and have your own social media account, it’s also an important reminder to be careful what you post throughout the school year.
