With the FIFA World Cup in full flow, we’re asking you to think about whether sport brings people together or causes more division.
Unfortunately, football (or more specifically, men’s football) has had lots of ugly moments on and off the pitch, with fights between both players and fans. But do the good moments outweigh the bad? Do we remember the bad things because they’re so shocking, but easily forget the moments of good sportsmanship?
And what about when it’s countries rather than clubs? A competition like the World Cup often has a bit more of a carnival atmosphere, and British fans usually like getting the chance to watch teams like Brazil and appreciate their fans bringing a bit of colour to the game.
But even international football can have big rivalries that sometimes get out of hand. For instance, a section of England fans have often sung unpleasant chants about Germany and the World Wars, but now that managers move around more and England’s men’s team has its first ever German manager, will that help bring the two countries closer together?
The World Cup will be hogging the attention for the next six weeks, but we’re not just talking about football. What do you think about all sports? Vote in our poll below!
