Although car fanatics are nicknamed ‘petrolheads’, Ferrari’s first ever electric car may mean that we’ll soon have to start calling them ‘batteryheads’.

The Ferrari Luce was revealed last week, with the Italian firm describing it as a “new chapter” in the company’s history.

It was designed with the help of Sir Jony Ive. The legendary designer created the much-copied iPhone and iPad, but this is the first car he’s designed.

Ferrari says that the Luce has a range of over 530km (329 miles), a top speed of over 310km/h (193mph), and can go from 0-100km/h (62mph) in just 2.5sec. It also has four engines, one for each wheel.

And if you like listening to tunes while your family’s on the road, the high-end sound system includes a whopping 21 loudspeakers and 3,000W of power.

It’s also the first Ferrari ever to have space for five people, as the engine and gearbox in previous petrol versions wouldn’t allow room for a seat in the middle.

So five seats in what the company claims is “the most comfortable Ferrari ever”, that’ll be a perfect family car, right? Well, only if your family has a spare £475,000…

The design has divided opinion. Some commenters liked it, but others described it as “a tumble dryer on wheels” and “DISGUSTING”, and that from the back it “looks like a car wearing a helmet”. Perhaps even worse from Ferrari’s point of view, it was also described as looking like “a BYD with a Ferrari badge”.
