WITH companies usually pursuing bigger and faster technology, could the answer to a more sustainable future be in the past?

That’s the argument of American professor Brook S Kennedy in his new book. He suggests that emphasis should be placed on redesigning technology that already works, such as pedal-powered sewing machines and manual lawnmowers.

Reusable products should also be favoured over disposable ones, such as razors that can be sharpened or shoe soles that can be repaired. Kennedy believes that this approach will help tackle global challenges such as climate change and pollution.

It depends on how old it is. If it is a play station 4, then it is fine because it can cope with our expectations. If it is the first generation of its kind computer, then it won't be useful

No, because new technology was invented for a reason, whether the old technology can catch on fire easily or just doesn't work as easily or as quick as we want it to, the new technology is always going to be higher rated

I think old technology is often more efficient than new tech. With things like mobile phones, old ones last longer than new ones because companies simply want people to purchase the newest edition. It would be much better and cheaper to restore the old ones so they can be reused, rather than wasting precious materials to make a new phone.

I was very close on this because it can sometimes be cheaper to buy something new than try fix it but we should still recycle and this is a good idea

Yes I think this is a logical well thought approach to protecting the environment

No because we can find sustainable ways to create this tech and we don’t have to deal with complaints about bad quality. Also though, if it is a Playstaion 4 or something, which isn’t too old.

No, because we have adapted to new tech. new tech was made to be more efficient and therefore it will be higher rated and more used.
