LOTS of MPs want social media bosses to be sent to prison if they don’t protect children’s online safety.
A group of Conservative MPs are calling for the Government to introduce tougher rules for those in charge of sites such as Facebook and Twitter, who they say aren’t doing enough to protect young people.
The MPs have signed an amendment (a change) to the UK’s Online Safety Bill, which could see bosses being jailed for up to two years if they break the new laws. The Labour Party is also backing the change, along with the children’s charity, the NSPCC.
The Online Safety Bill aims to protect children and young people from harmful content online by removing it or stopping it from being posted in the first place.
A Downing Street spokesperson said: “Our aim is to hold to account social media platforms for harmful content, while also ensuring the UK remains a great place to invest and grow a tech business. We will carefully consider all the proposed amendments to the online safety bill.”

Yes they should! Just because they're in charge doesn't mean they don't have to follow the law. In fact they should even get tougher sentencing as they are a role model to out country

I feel like if bosses don't follow the rules then it could be quite dangerous for young people. It would not be at all fair for anyone to be put at risk because of it.

The internet plays a big role in young people's lives nowadays, and safety means everything.

I believe it should be the main priority of social media bosses to ensure their users online safety, so breaking the rules is a serious offence. For this reason, the punishments should be harsh to encourage bosses to do more about online safety.

I think that it’s great that finally there are some boundaries to social media but if we don’t hear it ourselves we will hear it anyways from other sources and besides not everyone will follow the rules and so some might end up going to jail for no reason

They should because children might not know the rules and they are supposed to be role models.

Who likes cyber-bullying? No one! That’s why this is a good thing. It’s not to ruin fun it’s for ours safety. If they don’t go to jail then they have to be fined at the least.
