SCIENTISTS, politicians and business owners have been asking the UK’s governments to be honest about any new COVID restrictions.

With the new Omicron variant spreading rapidly around the UK, many medics and scientists say that further restrictions are needed. Many hospitals are already really stretched due to a lack of beds, plus staff being off sick. Staff being off due to COVID is also affecting businesses, train services and museums, with many closing or running reduced services.

On Tuesday, Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced that £1bn would be set aside to help businesses in England. Scotland is putting £100m into a similar fund. Lots of pubs and restaurants are suffering due to people staying at home and cancelling bookings, and some businesses have given up and closed early for Christmas rather than lose money every day.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced on Tuesday that some restrictions will come in after Boxing Day in Scotland.

Hogmanay celebrations won’t be able to go ahead and large sports matches won’t be allowed spectators. Ms Sturgeon asked people to “stay at home as much as possible”.

Last year was not a good year. This year can hardly be any worse, can it?

I hope that 2022 will be better, but I think we still have a little more to go in the fight against covid and climate change.

stigofthe · 3 years ago

no because i think people said that last year said it was going to be a great year but there were more variants

Yes because we haven’t started with lockdown , most adults have the vaccine and we can reflect on the mistakes we made in 2021.

babsbunny · 3 years ago

Yes because we now have the vaccine and people are getting their second jab as well as their booster so that means there will be less cases of Covid so hopefully there won’t be another lockdown which will make it a better year than 2020 and 2021.

It is too soon to know but I really hope that it will be a better year, for everyone. With everyone having the vaccinations that can receive them, it looks like 2022 will be a better year. although, it can tip in any direction with all of the new variants.

Yes because there is the covax ( Covid vaccinator or something like that) but climate change is getting worse and I think maybe one or 2 species might die out.

whaat type of positive (covid ect)

weirdcat · 3 years ago

I don't think the government are taking good precautions to make sure everyone is safe, so covid is still going to be very bad. I hope they make better decisions in the future, beacuse this means that I haven't done a lot of indoor activities, ect beacuse it's not safe.
