Do you see your smartphone as a home that you can visit whenever?

A NEW study from UCL has found that people ‘live’ in their smartphones.

A team of anthropologists (who study human society and culture) spent over a year learning about smartphone use in nine countries around the world.

They focused on older adults who weren’t young or elderly, as they said it gave them “a better representation of humanity as a whole”.

Professor Daniel Miller, who led the study, said that they found: “The smartphone is no longer just a device that we use, it’s
become the place where we live.”

“We are always ‘at home’ in our smartphone. We have become human snails carrying our home in our pockets.”

Do you see your smartphone as a home that you can visit whenever?

Phones should not be a home bcas why???? You already have a home and it's not like you can actually'live' in a phone. Also if you live in a phone then you are antisocial and being antisocial is not great for your mental health.

My phone is not a home as such more like a place where i can chat to all my friends and have fun. I do not ‘live in it’ and i think if u do live in ur phone that is quite bad. However i do think of it as a fun place that i can retreat to when i’m bored

Yes because you can listen to music on it which helps you focus and you can watch videos and apps like YouTube and TikTok in your free time. However, you can’t stay watching for too long because it’s unhealthy and it can affect your lifestyle. For example, people have been know to engage less in conversations and can have bad attitudes if people watch their smart phones for too long. A good tip is to set a timer for 1 hour and then do some other activity to occupy yourself.

I have a phone, it can be very useful but at the same time addictive you just need to control yourself, using your phone doesn't make you anti social because most people use it a lot to chat with distant friends or family. As well as some people not having the same opportunities as other people so they have nothing to but find something to entertain them it is mostly unfair because some people travel and go ice skating all the time but others are stuck at home having nothing to do. Me i used to use my phone so much to play games but my mum deleted them, so now I barely even use it i don't even go near it unless for work or just looking at messages people send me. Now that i am getting older and next year i am going to boarding school I now need to plan my days instead of not knowing what to do. A phone can be very useful but to be honest if somebody gets addicted to it there is nothing you can do ... I mean technology keeps evolving everyday becoming more and more useful. Robots are being made. We might even get more addicted to phones and devices to come. I think we should be grateful for the things we have . For some people being addicted to devices is good for because who knows you could start making them. But, the sad thing is, is that they are bad for your health and eyesight, maybe people might change that in the future you never know!!!

No because a phone is a device that you may use a lot, not a place where you live.
