SHAKESPEARE loved to invent words. He was very creative, coming up with new words and putting old words together in unexpected ways, many of which are still used today, including ‘lonely’, ‘bedroom’ and ‘amazement’!
But what about some of the ‘forgotten’ words? We’ve teamed up with renowned linguist Professor David Crystal to compile a list of 154 words that Shakespeare used in his day, and now we need your help to bring them back to life.
Join our poll and vote for your favourite word from our Top 10 list below.

I like ‘yesternight’ because it would save time as you would only write one word and it is quite funny.

isn’t tricksy actually a word not a forgotten one????? 🤔
katkid10 · 4 years ago
Panda89, I agree with you. Tricksy is an actual word, for my family, because my Mum always calls me a little bit tricksy. I voted for 'Truepenny', as it is a nice word to say. It also sounds a bit like two pennies and Tuppence is my favourite word to say.
