Is it time for kids to demand action from adults?

STAND aside, adults – the kids are taking over!
Frustrated and disappointed by the lack of progress on climate change, young people are taking on the challenge themselves. They are no longer relying on grown-ups and, instead, have decided to lead the way. Students across the globe are planning to protest on 15 March, demanding action on climate change and the damage that we are doing to the planet.
The inspiration for this new wave of action has come from Greta Thunberg, a 16-year-old from Sweden. She has been protesting outside the Swedish parliament, but also took a series of trains to get to Davos in Switzerland, where many of the world’s leaders were meeting. In a video she spoke to world leaders, saying: “We are facing a disaster of unspoken sufferings for enormous amounts of people. And now is not the time for speaking politely or focusing on what we can, or cannot, say. Now is the time to speak clearly.” Her Schools Strike 4 Climate Action campaign has attracted thousands of supporters and spread to at least 270 towns and cities worldwide.
Tens of thousands of young people have taken part in demonstrations in places like Australia, Switzerland, Germany and Belgium. There is even a day of action planned in Britain on 15 February, co-ordinated by the UK Students Climate Network. Events have been planned in cities including London, Manchester, Glasgow, Cardiff, Bristol and Brighton. If you, or your school, are taking part in any events, let us know how you get on, by emailing [email protected].

I think it is important for kids to have a chance to say what they want since it is OUR future not theirs.

I think children should take over because it is our future. You can’t get any worse than what has already happened with brexit and climate change.

The adults are doing nothing even though they have been warned and you also see kids on the news getting people's attention by posters the adults haven't done anything about global warming so I think kids need to take over.

I think it is crucial that kids take action and step forward. With the government not doing anything and us the next generation, we should be able to have a say

Children are humans too. Adults think they are the only ones who are human but we are the future and we live, have emotions and we are basically just a mini version of adults. Apart from the fact that all our knowledge is fresher in our minds which shows we are probably more quick to understand than adults.
Children should have more independence because I think we are labelled as ‘cute’ ‘small’ or ‘immature’.
Well this is a message to everyone out there...
WE MIGHT BE SMALL BUT WE ARE VAST INSIDE, KNOWLEDGE FRESH IN OUR MINDS AND READY TO LEARN NEW THINGS AND ADVENTURE THE WORLD!
Thank you.

We are living on this planet and we are young and our ancestors have left our planet in this state with plastic and pollution and animals. Every insect is going to be extinct in a century if we carry on at this rate!!

Brexit is our future, and we should be able to decide what happens next. Personally, I would start the Brexit Business all over, so we get the choice.

Yes , I have been thinking about the climate change book that I am reading and it is OUR FUTURE .also the government need to put some bins around so people don't litter . In my area ,Neasden, they have been putting plastic bags tied to lampposts so people don't litter . Children need to complain about this as I now have a risk to a athsma attack because of polluted air. This is not right . Children need to be listened to and right now people are even more idling in roads and buying diesEl and petrol cars .I cannot believe believe how the world is getting worse second by second .

Adults are just trying to be good parents and teach you for the future

This will be a unpopular opinion, but I am sick with climate change protests, particularly Extinction rebellion. It forces children, teenagers and young adults to have worries, making them think that they are doing something ''wrong'' when they eat something that happens to contain palm oil. Also, it can be used as a subtle form of exploitation. For example, Gretna Thunberg was on vouge's top 25 most powerful women list, but she has also been on the cover of a magazine that was innapropriate. I apologize about me ranting on I just have a lot to say
katkid10 · 5 years ago
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
katkid10 · 4 years ago
I think YES because we are more concerned about our world and act on it more than the adults of this planet. We also look at the world with fresher eyes. Although, I understand why people say NO because we can be a bit silly, I think that being a bit silly is essential to be a good leader. Kids are already demanding action. In America, they spoke against people being allowed to have guns. Malala Yusef spoke up about women's rights. And people here speak up here for what they think about the things on here. I think that it is very important for children to speak up because we are the people who will shape this Earth's future. 😸
