Should police ram suspects off their mopeds?

Polls

30th November 2018

Last week, dashcam footage released by police HQ Scotland Yard showed officers from the Scorpion pursuit team knocking suspects off their mopeds on London streets. The suspects could be seen flying over car bonnets and across roads.

Scotland Yard has revealed that this tactic is in place to combat moped crime, but that the technique is only enforced by specially-trained Scorpion drivers.

Moped crime has become a serious issue. So far in 2018, more than 12,400 incidents, including bikes being used in snatch thefts and acid attacks, have been recorded in London alone.

Officials say police officers have knocked a total of 63 suspects off mopeds so far in 2018. They say that the policy – called Operation Venice – has helped reduce moped crime by a third in just a year.

Critics however have condemned the tactic. Some have said that this policy increases the chance of “death by police car”. Some police officials have even criticised Scotland Yard’s new policy, describing the method as “dangerous driving”.

No they should not! That could seriously injure someone, and even if they are a bad person stealing something, its not fair. The police should give them a second chance, but first they need to even hear what they have to say. There could be innocent people in that car.

Yes because if they’re dangerous then putting them in a situation where they could possibly be injured could be one of the safest options

j100p · 6 years ago

I don't think that police should do this, as although it may stop some crimes, it could hurt the suspects, and also other people if the mopeds keep going, or if the suspects fall onto other people

ad72_456 · 6 years ago

No, the police was partly made to stop killing, and if they knock people of mopeds, there's a risk of death.

smiley · 6 years ago

I think we should do every thing we can go stop crime. So if this will Help I think we should do it.

Newsryland · 6 years ago

It is very dangerous and is a threat to pedestrians

redsetter0 · 6 years ago

it could cause serious damage to health.
so i think no.
please agree.
please.
thankyou.
one more reason,
its just illegal.
I see why they do it to cars but man.
also im first.
so yeah

The only reason police ram suspects off their mopeds is for everyone's safety. They should be allowed to do this as it gives them a better chance to catch criminals.

The police should because the suspect could get away and it may actually be the guilty person.

gamer07 · 6 years ago

Police should enforce the law and catch people doing wrong, but if they knock people off of mopeds, they are law breaking too!

agentlord · 6 years ago

Yes Because they or someone might be
common doing crimes

FIRST!!!I disagree with the decision because if police push a A
suspected criminal of a moped the first may get injured. Also,it's only a suspected criminal so the could hurt someone for n, o reason.?

chealsea · 6 years ago

I don't think they should as it is possible to kill the people on the mopeds and it is also possible for the suspects to be innocent

cheezepuff · 6 years ago

Yes because it is not the right thing to do,going along on a mophead and taking something that could be a precious thing to another person,or the valuable object that they bought. It makes them feel dipressed and annoyed.

myotisis · 6 years ago

No! I understand that they need to get hold of the suspects, but what if they get the wrong person? You could be seriously injured,

sambrophy · 6 years ago

I think police shouldn't ram suspects off mopeds because even though they may have committed a crime, they're still humans and police shouldn't injure them on purpose.

elephant_m · 6 years ago

Even though they are robbers, this is very dangerous and can injure someone badly. It does help stop crimes but if there was a safer way, that would be better.

Umbrella4 · 6 years ago

#first to comment!!! Yes, if it will save many people from being killed but you don’t want more people to die because of being knocked off a moped!!

act-now45 · 6 years ago

Yes as the people they are ramming off could harm others which is more dangerous. How else are they going to be caught?

3leph4nt · 6 years ago

No I don't think it's ok for police to ram into mopeds, because they are setting an example and are making it seem ok for people to ram into others.

isabelles8 · 6 years ago

No they shouldn't because just because they've done something wrong doesn't mean they deserve to be hurt.

swace · 6 years ago

Maybe. If its for the publics safety, then yes because criminals should not rob innocent peoples houses! However, you could say no because it is an act of violence that the police is causing.

bilby · 6 years ago

No, what if the man or the moped got knocked down and they hit someone or their pets or even harm the officer him or herself. The police shouldn’t be able to do anything that could harm someone.

wimpykid · 6 years ago

Yes because if they don't, suspects would harm other people which is more dangerous.

How else will they be caught?
This is the easiest way

sabrewolf · 6 years ago

No, the suspect might get hurt but I think they should stop it though, and if it comes to extreme cases they may clamp the moped

baabaa123 · 6 years ago

you could seriously injure someone
or even kill them
(although quite savage)

#Be savage

natalija · 6 years ago

No. I don't think that the police should do this because they might be injuring someone innocent and even if they are criminals, that is not a fair way to deal with it.

skateuk · 6 years ago

no.
police are meant to help people and show them the right and wrong things to do. by doing this they are showing a bad example and telling them they can do it to. this is also very dangerous and could kill lives.

llamatoast · 6 years ago

I'm not sure!!!

kitten888 · 6 years ago

Yes! As long as they don’t hurt the suspects I think it’s fine.

heybanana7 · 6 years ago

no because they could die and if not be badly injured.do you like being injured?

owl5 · 6 years ago

I think no because even if they are a suspect you still have to give them respect!

munchie26 · 6 years ago

The only reason police ram suspects off their mopeds is for everyone's safety. They should be allowed to do this as it gives them a better chance to catch criminals.

munchie26 · 6 years ago

But you can’t clamp a driving moped can you!

jabberjay · 6 years ago

What if they kill the suspect, and the suspect wasn't even guilty!

sparrow223 · 6 years ago

I don't think they should because what if the suspect is inocent but dies from being hit by a police car

flossingg · 6 years ago

if they need to

crazyfish6 · 6 years ago

Yes, but only if they know how to do it and they have a good reason.

aoifeh · 6 years ago

yes

xx_puppys · 6 years ago

Yes they can as long as no members of the public are around the vehicle when the suspect is 'rammed' off. This maneuver can save many lives as long as its done properly. Anything to help stop people like terrorists we should not hesitate.

mimpi123 · 6 years ago

i think not because if we do whats the difference between us and them?

sloth2008 · 6 years ago

No they should'nt! It may be good to stop crime but by ramming suspects off their mopeds the police force would be inflicting crime themselves. Also, they are only suspects so that means it might not even be the person they think it is.

huddlest · 6 years ago

They can if there wearing a helmet

teamgorbo1 · 6 years ago

Yes because the moped riders have no regards for anyone else and the police have a job to protect innocent members of the public. The mopeds that they ride are usually stolen. The riders expect the police to be soft on them so it may stop them doing it again if the police show they mean business.

jedi1234 · 6 years ago

Definetely not! Imagine if the suspect is innocent and the police eternally injure that person?

orangebob9 · 6 years ago

I voted yes because they could be preventing a serious crime but on the other hand they could really hurt somebody.

crystalx27 · 6 years ago

no because it is a terrible thing to do even to a bad person.

celtic10 · 6 years ago

I think police officers have every right to do it ??‍♀️??‍♂️

ijm · 6 years ago

I 100% agree with marla cat. The police should be more fair and give people a chance, and I don't even get why someone would ever dream to do such a thing. Just because something looks suspicious it doesn't mean that person is guilty and should be arrested

ijm · 6 years ago

Also it would kind of be breaking the law

hands up if you agree

gominions · 6 years ago

No because that would badly injure the "suspect", who might not even have done it in the first place, and even if they have stolen something they don't deserve that pain

finbob207 · 6 years ago

I LIKE TURTLES!!!!!!!!!

finbob207 · 6 years ago

Also yes cos it sounds funny. ???????

lottielove · 5 years ago

No, definitely not, it could end up with somebody going to hospital and (possibly) dieing. It could seriously injure someone and they might be innocent too.

lottielove · 5 years ago

Ohh, and also I think more people said yes than no because it's more dramatic when that happens! :)
BUT I SAID NO! :(

celtic10 · 5 years ago

Only if they know they are not stopping for them

nevada · 5 years ago

Yes hahaha
