YOU could soon have more control over what happens to personal information you put online.
The Government wants people to be able to ask for personal data and information to be deleted from the internet if they want. This includes things like embarrassing social media posts and information people have supplied to companies, such as their home address and age. People will also find it easier to say no when they don’t want their personal information to be used.
The plan is part of a bigger look at UK data protection laws and the privacy of UK citizens.
Companies that don’t follow the new rules and fail to protect your data could face fines.
Matt Hancock, the Government’s minister for digital, said: “The new data protection bill will give us one of the most robust, yet dynamic, sets of data laws in the world.”
