21 October, Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, UK: People attend a memorial service at Aberfan cemetery to mark 50 years since the Aberfan tragedy. On this day in 1966, 144 people, including 116 children were killed, when a mountain of coal waste slid down into a school and local village.
