14 FEBRUARY: APPLEBY, ENGLAND – The Tornado steam locomotive pulls the first timetabled main line steam-hauled service for half a century across the Ribblehead viaduct in North Yorkshire. It is the first time in decades that a steam locomotive has been used for timetabled services on the world famous Carlisle to Settle line. The services are part of celebrations to mark the reopening of the line after landslides closed a long stretch.
