20 APRIL: GEESTHACHT, GERMANY – A dementia patient spends the day at an alpaca farm as therapy in the village of Krukow. Dementia patients have the opportunity to pet and feed the animals, participate in farm chores, walk on the 40 hectares of farm property and socialize with one another, all of which act as a sort of therapy to stimulate the patients and help them to connect with their surroundings. The project is part of a government effort to promote local initiatives for dementia patients. Three farms in the state of Schleswig-Holstein are taking part in the project.
